Useful materials for economics teachers to prepare their students to compete in the Hawaii State High School Economics Challenge (EC).
COMPETITION FORMAT
The Hawaii State Economics Challenge, part of the National Economics Challenge, is the premier economics competition for high school students in Hawaii, testing their knowledge of (i) microeconomics, (ii) macroeconomics, and (iii) international economics and current events. The competition is open for both AP and non-AP economics classes, which compete in different divisions. In both divisions, teams of 3-4 students, guided by a teacher-coach compete through written exams, with the top two teams competing in a Final Round of competition in a format similar to the game show Jeopardy. The winner of the Final Round in each division will become the Hawaii state champion, and progress to the National semi-finals. Individual teachers may enter as many teams as they wish in both divisions.
The competition’s two divisions are:
ADAM SMITH: For AP, international baccalaureate, and honors students (as well as any returning competitors)
DAVID RICARDO: For first-time Challenge competitors who have taken no more than one economics course.
